Sorry to be the rain giver, but orders are orders. the biggest problem I see with the Military today...Inclunding My Marine Corps is the lack of overall disclipline...mind you the Corps holds the title for best discliplined, but when you are in the military and you get pregnant, there are too many case where you cnnot do your job. you should be discharged on a medical with benefits until the child is born. At that time, you can apply for unemployment. The Corps did not issue you a child/family in your seabag, if that is what you want then ask for your DD214 and get out. You cannot effectly do your job... especially as a single parent, This is applicable to Males and Females. so there is no gender issue here. Got a child, cannot deply...get out.

It must be said that Hollywood NEVER gets the military right, from little things to covers indoors to big things like what kind of person would get what kind of clearance.

But the movie DOES do something important and this is raise awareness. I've never taken a movie about the military at face value, it always a metaphor for one thing or another, and I'm fine with that, more so now as you, Marine, are given the opportunity to set the technical record straight, no matter how accurate the emotional truths portrayed are.

Sgt. Perna, I have forwarded this site address to my son, Spec. Steven Pfeiffer, who is presently deployed with a Trans. Unit in Iraq and scheduled to rotate home soon. It is my hope he will avail himself of your, or another, program to help him with what I know he has experienced.

Opium is exported from Afghanistan into the former Soviet republics to be processed into heroine. It is believed that Russian organized crime organizations are largely responsible for this refinement into heroine and subsequent distribution. Furthermore, growing poppies is one of the only crops that is profitable in Afghanistan. Taking away this opportunity from the farmers, the citizens of the country, will create more strife and probably turn more civilians to the Taliban and Al-Qaeda for support financially, as well as security agreements. It's not a problem of eradication—which has proven a horrible tactic in South America as cocaine production has increased significantly—it's a matter of the human condition. The farmers choose to grow opium because that's the only way they can make a living.

The UN is a bureaucratic and diplomatic organization first and foremost. Their military is primarily for security of their diplomats and civilians, not for offensive operations.

I read in today’s paper that UN is urging Russia to stop flow of drugs into Europe from Afghanistan and I was amazed to read that. Now its all Russia's fault that drugs are being moved into Europe. Europe does not want to have drugs and its understandable, but why use UN to press Russia to stop the flow. They should stop the production of drugs in Afghanistan instead... they have troops on the ground or they are afraid to loose soldiers and so no action taken in Afghanistan to stop production of drugs. What a shameful approach to deal with the problem.

Me too. The plow scrapes eighteen inches of dirt, and I think any IED buried deeper than that would be ineffective against its target, unless it was specifically designed to take one of these out.
